Why Source Aluminum Extrusions from Vietnam?

Vietnam's aluminum extrusion industry has grown rapidly over the past decade — driven by investment in modern press technology, integrated anodizing and powder coating lines, and a manufacturing workforce skilled in complex profile design. What was once a niche capability has matured into a full-service extrusion ecosystem covering profiles from simple angles and channels to complex multi-void hollow sections.

For global buyers, Vietnam offers a compelling combination: lower ex-factory costs than China, proximity to Southeast Asian assembly hubs, coverage under 16+ Free Trade Agreements including CPTPP, RCEP, and the EVFTA, and — critically for US buyers — $0 Section 301 tariff exposure. Chinese aluminum extrusions face 25% Section 301 tariffs plus anti-dumping duties as high as 374%.

The challenge has always been factory verification. DEWIN solves that. We've physically visited and audited every extrusion factory in our network under the 50-point Dolphin framework — verifying press capacity, die shop capability, material traceability, surface finishing quality, and QC documentation. You see real photos, real audit scores, and real capabilities before you commit.

Aluminum Extrusion FAQ

What aluminum alloys do your Vietnam extrusion factories work with?
Our audited extrusion factories work with 6000 series (6061, 6063, 6082, 6005A) and 7000 series (7075, 7005) alloys. 6063-T5 is the most popular for architectural and general-purpose profiles. 6061-T6 for structural applications. Each factory in our network is pre-audited under the 50-point Dolphin framework including material verification and alloy certification.
What profile sizes and complexity can Vietnam factories extrude?
Our Vietnam extrusion partners have presses ranging from 600T to 7,500T. Circumscribing circle diameter (CCD) from 10mm up to 350mm. Wall thickness minimum 0.8mm (6063) to 1.2mm (6061). Maximum length 12m. Complex hollow and porthole profiles, multi-void sections, and semi-hollow geometries are all within capability.
What certifications do your aluminum extrusion factories hold?
Factories in our extrusion network hold ISO 9001:2015 quality management certifications as a minimum. Select suppliers hold IATF 16949 for automotive-grade extrusions. All aluminum extrusions come with EN 10204 3.1 material certificates (mill certificates) confirming alloy composition and temper. Our Dolphin audit includes a dedicated Materials Verification pillar.
How does the Dolphin audit apply to aluminum extrusion?
Our 50-point Dolphin framework covers: (1) Factory Infrastructure — press capacity, die shop, billet storage; (2) Process Control — extrusion speed, temperature logs, quench methodology; (3) Materials & Traceability — billet CoA, alloy verification, batch tracking; (4) Quality Systems — dimensional inspection, finish verification, defect rate tracking; (5) Commercial — on-time delivery history, QC documentation capability. Only factories passing all 5 pillars join our network.
What surface finishes are available from your extrusion factories?
Mill finish, anodizing (clear, black, bronze, champagne, custom colors, 5–25µm), powder coating (any RAL color, wood grain transfer, textured), PVDF coating, electrophoresis, polishing, brushing, and sandblasting. Most of our extrusion factories handle anodizing and powder coating in-house — reducing lead time and handling risk vs. outsourcing finishing.
Can I get secondary fabrication done at the same factory?
Yes. Our vertically integrated extrusion factories offer CNC machining (milling, drilling, tapping), sawing to length (±0.5mm standard, ±0.1mm precision), bending, punching, welding (TIG/MIG), thermal break insertion, and assembly. Keeping secondary ops in-house at the extrusion facility reduces cost, lead time, and quality handoff risk — a key advantage our Dolphin audit verifies.
What is the typical lead time for a custom extrusion profile?
New die design and fabrication: 5–15 days (solid profiles 5–10 days, hollow/semi-hollow 10–15 days). First production run after die approval: 2–3 weeks. For existing dies, production-only lead time is 1–2 weeks depending on order volume. Air freight to US/EU: 5–7 days. Ocean freight: 25–35 days.
What is the minimum order quantity?
Typically 500kg per alloy/temper combination for a new die. For existing standard profiles, minimum is approximately 200–300kg. We work with DEWIN clients to consolidate orders across our network where volume is low — so you're not forced to overstock to meet MOQ.
