Why "ISO Certified" Needs to Be Verified
Vietnam's manufacturing sector is genuinely growing — and the cert landscape reflects this. Many factories hold real, IAF-accredited ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and AS9100D certificates issued by reputable registrars like Bureau Veritas, TÜV, SGS, and Lloyd's Register.
However, cert quality varies. Some factories hold certificates from non-IAF registrars. Others have certs with scopes that don't cover their actual production processes. And a certificate confirms a documented system exists — it doesn't guarantee the system is practiced on the floor.

The international foundation for Quality Management Systems. Establishes requirements for documented procedures, customer focus, nonconformance control, corrective action, and management review.

Automotive Tier 1 & Tier 2 component suppliers
The automotive sector's QMS standard. Mandates APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC, control plans, and customer-specific requirements (CSRs). Issued jointly by AIAG and IATF member OEMs.

Aerospace, defense, and space component suppliers
The aerospace and defense quality standard (AS9100 Rev D). Adds to ISO 9001: risk management, AS9102 First Article Inspection, configuration management, and counterfeit parts prevention.
Pillar 3 — AS9100D cert + AS9102 FAI package + traceability records reviewed on-site
Enables Vietnam factories to enter global aerospace supply chains. Supports high-value programs requiring full lot traceability and FAI documentation.
Required by Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, GE Aviation, and most defense primes. ITAR screening applied separately.
ISO 13485:2016
Medical device component and sub-assembly manufacturers
Medical device specific QMS standard. Requires design controls, device history records (DHR), risk management (ISO 14971), sterile product handling, and post-market surveillance readiness.

Aligns Vietnam factory quality systems with FDA 21 CFR Part 820 and EU MDR requirements for medical device component supply.
