The Multi-Process Factory: What It Means for Global Buyers
Most of DEWIN Vietnam's 179+ audited factories specialize — a die casting factory does die casting, a CNC shop does CNC. That specialization produces depth. When a buyer's assembly includes a cast aluminum housing, a turned steel shaft, injection-molded plastic clips, and threaded inserts, sourcing from separate specialists means managing four suppliers, four quality audits, four logistical streams, and four sets of import documents. Main Workshop
The main workshop is organized by process zone — die casting cells, machining cells, plastics area, and final inspection are clearly separated. Process zone separation is a positive Dolphin audit signal: it shows process flow discipline and reduces the risk of cross-contamination or quality escapes at handoff points between processes.
Aluminum Die Casting Machines
Two aluminum die casting machines — documented and photographed during our audit visit. Die casting is capital-intensive; the investment in equipment and tooling signals a factory built for production volumes, not occasional spot work.
Common alloys: ADC12 (the industry standard for most general-purpose aluminum die castings) and A380 (higher strength, often used in automotive and industrial applications). Thin-wall capability enables complex housing geometries with wall thicknesses down to approx. 1.5mm.
Typical applications: motor housings, gearbox covers, pump bodies, structural brackets, electronic enclosure halves.
CNC Lathe Machine
CNC lathe capability for precision turning operations. For die cast parts requiring machined bores, datum faces, or tight-tolerance OD/ID features, in-house CNC turning means those post-cast machining steps happen at the same facility — no second supplier handoff, no inter-factory transit risk for semi-finished parts.
Stand-alone turned parts are also produced: shafts, pins, bushings, connectors, and blanks for downstream processes.
Multi-Spindle Automatic Lathe
A multi-spindle automatic lathe — production-scale turning equipment that processes multiple workpieces simultaneously. This is the right tool for high-volume, high-consistency turned parts like fastener blanks, bushings, connectors, and pin stock. The presence of multi-spindle turning equipment distinguishes a volume production supplier from a prototype or jobbing shop.
Injection Molding Machine
Injection molding for thermoplastic components. In mixed-material assemblies — a metal housing with molded plastic covers, clips, or cable guides — having both metal processes and plastics under one roof enables genuine BOM consolidation. Common materials: PP, ABS, Nylon PA6/PA66. Our audit inspects mold condition, shot consistency, process parameter logs, and dimensional verification of molded parts.
Automatic Tapping Machine
Automated tapping for threaded holes in cast and machined parts. Automatic tapping with fixed feed rates delivers consistent thread quality across production volumes — important for assembly-ready parts where thread gauging is part of final inspection. Our Dolphin audit checks tap type, thread gauges used, and inspection sampling plan for threaded features.
Inspection Area
A dedicated, well-lit inspection station, separate from the production floor. During Dolphin audits, we verify: inspection is actually performed (not rubber-stamped at shipping), gauging tools are calibrated, and inspection records are documented per batch with traceability. A factory with a properly equipped inspection station is fundamentally different from one that checks parts at the packing table.
Production Area
General production area with WIP clearly staged and identified. Floor organization, aisle marking, tool storage, and WIP labeling are all documented Dolphin audit checklist items under the Facility & Equipment pillar. A well-organized floor is a leading indicator of process discipline throughout the facility.
Dolphin Audit Deep Dive: Multi-Process Scoring
Multi-process factories receive a more detailed Dolphin audit than single-process specialists. Each process zone is evaluated independently against the 50-point framework. A factory can score strongly on casting and need improvement on plastics quality documentation — the audit surfaces both, rather than averaging them away.
